The Shariah Laboratory of the Islamic Family Law Program (Ahwal Syakhshiyyah), Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang held a Legal Skills Education and Training (PLKH) in the field of Halal Product Assurance on June 11. The event, held in Rooms 502-504 on the 5th Floor of GKB II UMM, was attended by PLKH participants from the 2017, 2018, and 2019 cohorts of the HKI program.
The first session of the Studium Generale was led by Mrs. Idaul Hasanah, S.Ag., M.H.I., who presented on the regulations surrounding Halal Product Assurance, Muhammadiyah’s Self Declaration/Ikrar Halal Muhammadiyah, the Muhammadiyah Halal Certification Agency (LPHKHT), and Halal Supervisors.
In her presentation, Mrs. Ida, as she is called, began with the understanding of Halal as a lifestyle, Halal as a citizen's right, and the state's obligation to its citizens. This is also outlined in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 168.
“The state's efforts to fulfill the obligation of guaranteeing Halal consumption for its Muslim citizens are included in Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance. Its goal is to provide comfort, security, safety, and certainty regarding the availability of Halal products for the public in consuming and using products. Therefore, BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Agency) was established,” she explained. All products circulating in society must have Halal certification, which is the basis for the birth of Halal certification.
The process of Halal certification has given rise to a new profession: Halal Supervisor. Halal Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the Halal Product Assurance (PPH), assisting Halal auditors who report to company leaders. There are several competency units for Halal Supervisors as outlined in Law No. 21 of 2022.
Additionally, Mrs. Ida explained Muhammadiyah’s Self Declaration as a response to the Halal regulations in Indonesia. The Ikrar Halal is a Halal declaration made by institutions that have competence and credibility regarding business actors. LPHKHT has been assisting restaurants, catering services, and MSME players in making the Halal declaration. (ika)
