Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), through the Islamic Family Law Study Program under the Faculty of Islamic Studies, has launched an innovative program called the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School. This program is designed to prepare students to become competent corporate law experts with a global perspective.

The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School offers a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of corporate law and business regulations. Students are equipped with in-depth knowledge of fundamental corporate law concepts in both national and international contexts. They are also trained to analyze legal cases related to contracts, competition law, intellectual property rights, and corporate responsibilities.

One of the key courses in this program is Bankruptcy Law and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations. This course is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of bankruptcy law and suspension of debt payment obligations in Indonesia. Students are expected to analyze bankruptcy and debt restructuring cases, understand the related legal procedures, and develop practical skills in managing bankruptcy processes and negotiating debt payment suspension.

This program is conducted by the Islamic Family Law Study Program of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at UMM. In its implementation, UMM collaborates with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Malang, which provides practical support and professional experience for students.

The Bankruptcy Law and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations course is scheduled for the sixth semester, during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The course will be conducted using a hybrid learning model, combining offline and online methods to offer flexibility for students.

Although based at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, the program extends beyond on-campus learning. Students will have the opportunity to intern at leading companies or legal institutions, providing them with direct exposure to the professional corporate law environment.

The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School serves as a response to the growing demand for corporate law experts who understand legal aspects and have insights into business ethics and corporate social responsibility. In an era of globalization and increasingly intense business competition, the presence of competent and ethical legal experts is crucial for the development of Indonesia's business sector.

This program adopts a holistic and practical learning approach. In addition to theoretical lectures, students will participate in various practical activities, including case analysis, dispute resolution simulations, and internships. The Bankruptcy Law and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations course will be taught by practitioner lecturer Maliki, S.H., M.H., who will bring real-world experience into the classroom.

The program's curriculum is designed to cover essential aspects of corporate law. Students will study not only positive law but also business ethics and sustainability principles. A unique feature of this program is the integration of Islamic legal principles into corporate law analysis, providing a broader and contextually relevant perspective for Indonesia.

One primary focus of the program is the development of dispute resolution skills. Students will be trained in various conflict resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation. These skills are vital given the complexity of business disputes commonly encountered in the corporate world.

In the Bankruptcy Law and Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations course, students will delve into the complexities of bankruptcy processes and debt restructuring. They will learn the legal implications of bankruptcy for various stakeholders, as well as effective and ethical resolution strategies in compliance with applicable regulations. A thorough understanding of legal procedures related to bankruptcy and debt payment suspension will be a core component of this course.

The program also emphasizes the development of students' soft skills. Communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities are honed through various practical activities and collaborative projects. These skills are crucial not only in academic settings but also in professional corporate law careers.

Beyond theoretical comprehension, students will develop practical skills in handling bankruptcy and debt restructuring cases. They will be trained to anticipate and address legal issues arising in bankruptcy processes, including debt payment suspension negotiations.

The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program also places particular emphasis on ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Students will explore how business ethics principles can be integrated into corporate law practices. They will be encouraged to understand the importance of balancing business interests with social responsibilities and how the law can serve as a tool to promote sustainable business practices.

The program's uniqueness lies in its integration with Islamic legal principles. Students are invited to explore how Islamic values provide additional perspectives in corporate law analysis. This approach is not only relevant in Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, but also offers valuable insights for addressing ethical and moral issues in the global business environment.

The internship program is a critical component of the curriculum. Through partnerships with leading companies and legal institutions, students gain the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. This experience enriches their understanding of corporate law practice and builds a valuable professional network for their future careers.

With its comprehensive learning approach, the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School aims to produce graduates with deep legal knowledge, practical skills, and strong ethical awareness. Graduates of this program are expected to become valuable assets to Indonesia's legal and business sectors, contributing significantly to the development of ethical and sustainable corporate law practices.

In an increasingly complex global economy, the presence of competent and integrity-driven corporate law experts is more critical than ever. This program addresses this need by preparing a new generation of legal practitioners who can tackle modern business challenges while upholding ethical and social values.

With support from PERADI Malang and the involvement of experienced practitioner lecturers, this program bridges the gap between theory and practice in corporate legal education. Students will gain a strong conceptual foundation alongside practical insights relevant to contemporary business dynamics.

The success of this program will have a broad impact, not only for students and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang but also for the overall development of corporate law practices in Indonesia. By producing graduates with high competence and strong moral integrity, the program contributes to improving the quality of legal services in the corporate sector, ultimately supporting economic growth and fostering a healthy investment climate in Indonesia.

In the long term, the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program is expected to serve as a model for the development of corporate legal education in Indonesia, inspiring other institutions to adopt more holistic and practice-oriented approaches to preparing future legal experts. By doing so, this program contributes not only to individual student development but also to raising standards of professionalism and ethics in corporate law practices across Indonesia.
