Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), through the Islamic Family Law Study Program under the Faculty of Islamic Studies, has launched an innovative program called the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School. This program is designed to prepare students to become competent corporate law experts, with a particular focus on Civil Court Practice and Arbitration.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School offers a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of corporate law and business regulations. Students are equipped with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental concepts of corporate law in both national and international contexts. They are also trained to analyze legal cases related to contracts, competition law, intellectual property rights, and corporate responsibilities.
One of the flagship courses in this program is Civil Court Practice and Arbitration, which is designed to deepen students’ understanding of the practical aspects of the civil justice system, including trial processes, evidence management, and dispute resolution strategies through arbitration. Students are trained to develop advanced analytical skills in examining civil law cases and preparing to actively engage in handling complex legal disputes.
This program is implemented by the Islamic Family Law Study Program of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at UMM. In its execution, UMM collaborates with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Malang, which provides practical support and professional experience to students.
The Civil Court Practice and Arbitration course is scheduled for the sixth semester, specifically during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The course is conducted using a hybrid model, combining offline and online learning methods to provide students with flexibility.
Although based at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, the program is not limited to on-campus learning. Students will have opportunities to intern at prominent companies or legal institutions, giving them hands-on experience.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School serves as a response to the growing need for corporate law experts who not only understand legal aspects but also possess practical skills in civil court practice and arbitration. In an era of globalization and increasing complexity in business disputes, competent legal experts in civil court practice and arbitration play a vital role in supporting the business world in Indonesia.
This program adopts a holistic and practical learning approach. In addition to theoretical lectures, students will participate in various practical activities, including trial simulations, case analyses, and internships. The Civil Court Practice and Arbitration course is taught by practitioner lecturer Dian Aminudin, S.H., who brings real-world experience into the classroom.
The curriculum of this program is designed to cover critical aspects of corporate law and civil court practice. Students will study not only positive law but also business ethics and sustainability principles. A unique feature of the program is the integration of Islamic legal principles into corporate law analysis, providing a broader perspective relevant to the Indonesian context.
In the Civil Court Practice and Arbitration course, students will gain practical skills in managing trial processes, drafting legal arguments, and understanding arbitration procedures. They will also learn effective and ethical dispute resolution strategies within the context of civil law.
A primary focus of the program is on developing dispute resolution skills. Students are trained in various conflict resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation, with a particular emphasis on civil disputes. These skills are crucial, given the complexity of business disputes often encountered in the corporate world.
The program also emphasizes the development of students' soft skills. Communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities are honed through various practical activities and collaborative projects. These skills are not only vital in academic contexts but are also highly sought after in professional careers in corporate law and civil court practice.
Beyond theoretical understanding, students will develop practical skills in handling civil cases. They will be trained to anticipate and address various legal issues that may arise in civil court proceedings, including arbitration contexts.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program also places special emphasis on ethical aspects in civil court practice and arbitration. Students will explore how business ethics principles can be integrated into civil court practices. They will be encouraged to understand the importance of integrity and professionalism in legal practice.
The uniqueness of this program lies in its integration with Islamic legal principles. Students are invited to explore how Islamic values can provide additional perspectives in corporate law and civil court practice analysis. This approach is not only relevant in Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, but also offers valuable insights for addressing ethical and moral issues in the global business and legal landscape.
The internship program is a critical component of the curriculum. Through partnerships with leading companies and legal institutions, students gain the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world situations. This experience not only enriches their understanding of corporate law practice and civil court procedures but also builds a valuable professional network for their future careers.
With its comprehensive learning approach, the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program aims to produce graduates who not only have deep legal knowledge but also practical skills and strong ethical understanding in civil court practice and arbitration. Graduates of this program are expected to become valuable assets to Indonesia's legal and business sectors, capable of making significant contributions to the development of ethical and sustainable corporate law practices and civil court systems.
In the long term, the program is anticipated to serve as a model for the development of corporate legal education in Indonesia, inspiring other educational institutions to adopt a more holistic and practice-oriented approach to preparing future legal experts. By doing so, this program contributes not only to individual student development but also to the advancement of professionalism and ethics in corporate law and civil court practices across Indonesia.
