Malang, 2024 – The Center of Excellence (COE) Corporate Law School Program, organized by the Islamic Family Law Study Program at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), in collaboration with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Malang, has successfully strengthened students’ understanding of corporate law. This program aims to produce graduates competent in corporate law, focusing on mastering the fundamentals of corporate law, national and international business regulations, as well as practical skills in dispute resolution and legal case analysis.
The program targeted sixth-semester students during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The theoretical aspects of the Corporate Law course were taught by Gunadi Handoko, S.H., M.M., a practitioner whose professional experience brought real-world insights to the classroom. Furthermore, the collaboration with PERADI Malang provided added value by offering professional perspectives from experienced advocates.
Throughout the program, students not only learned the foundational concepts of corporate law but also explored various business regulations applicable at both national and international levels. They were trained to analyze legal cases commonly encountered by companies, such as issues related to contracts, competition law, intellectual property rights, and corporate liability.
In addition to legal aspects, the program emphasized business ethics, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability principles. A distinctive feature of this program was the integration of Islamic legal principles in corporate law analysis, providing students with a unique perspective enriched with moral values.
Conducted during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, the program utilized a hybrid learning method, combining face-to-face (offline) meetings and online sessions. This approach offered flexibility for students while leveraging technology to enhance the learning experience.
The program’s significance lies in its goal of producing graduates who not only understand the theory of corporate law but also possess the practical skills required in the professional world. Students were trained to analyze legal cases and resolve disputes through various methods such as mediation, arbitration, and litigation. This comprehensive preparation equips them to face diverse legal challenges in their future careers.
The program employed innovative teaching methods. Gunadi Handoko, as a practitioner lecturer, delivered lessons using a practical approach that bridged theory with real-world experience. In addition to theoretical classes, students were given opportunities to intern at prominent companies or legal institutions. This allowed them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
During internships, students not only learned about corporate law practices but also developed soft skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork. These skills are essential for success in the corporate law field, where effective communication and teamwork are integral to professionalism.
The learning outcomes of the Corporate Law course in this program were comprehensive. Students were expected to master the basic concepts of corporate law and national and international business regulations. They were also trained to analyze corporate-related legal cases and acquire skills in resolving disputes through various methods.
Understanding business ethics and corporate social responsibility was another critical focus, with students learning to integrate sustainability principles into business practices. Additionally, the inclusion of Islamic legal principles in corporate law analysis provided students with a broader and deeper perspective.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School Program, organized by Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang and PERADI Malang, successfully provided students with in-depth understanding and practical skills in corporate law. Through this program, students were equipped with not only theoretical knowledge but also the practical skills crucial for the professional world. The integration of Islamic legal principles added a unique perspective, enriching students' comprehension of corporate law. The development of soft skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork further ensures that students are well-prepared to achieve success in their future careers.
