Malang, 2024 – The Center of Excellence (COE) Corporate Law School program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) reaffirms its commitment to providing quality legal education by offering a course on Labor Law and Industrial Dispute Resolution. This program, organized by the Islamic Family Law Study Program at the Faculty of Islamic Studies UMM in collaboration with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Malang, aims to equip students with a deep understanding of labor law and the skills to resolve industrial disputes.
The theoretical lectures for this course are taught by Mr. Sunarjo, S.H., M.Hum., a legal practitioner with extensive experience in labor law. He brings not only academic knowledge but also practical insights that are highly relevant to the teaching process. The theoretical lectures are held in the sixth semester during the Even Semester of the 2023/2024 Academic Year, using a hybrid method that combines face-to-face (offline) and online sessions, providing flexibility and accessibility for students.
The learning outcomes for the Labor Law and Industrial Dispute Resolution course are comprehensive. Students are taught not only the basic concepts of labor law, including workers' rights, employers' obligations, and national and international labor regulations, but also trained to analyze and resolve industrial disputes. They learn various dispute resolution methods such as mediation, arbitration, and litigation, which are crucial for managing conflicts in the workplace.
The program also provides an in-depth understanding of legal protection mechanisms for workers in various employment and industrial relations contexts. Students not only study theory but are also given practical skills to face real-world challenges in the workplace. The integration of Islamic legal principles in labor law analysis adds a unique perspective, enhancing their understanding of regulations and ethics in industrial relations.
Throughout the course, students are also given opportunities to develop soft skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork through various learning activities. This not only prepares them to become competent legal professionals but also professionals who can quickly and effectively adapt to dynamic work environments.
The collaboration between UMM and PERADI Malang adds significant value for students. They learn not only from academic lecturers but also have access to experienced legal practitioners who help them understand the practical application of the theory they study. Direct interaction with these professionals also helps students expand their networks and prepare for their career steps after graduation.
The use of the hybrid learning method is one of the program's strengths. Students can attend in-person lectures to gain direct experience from lecturers and interact with classmates, while also utilizing technology to support their online learning. This flexibility not only enhances learning efficiency but also prepares them to face technological challenges in the modern workplace.
In its effort to produce graduates who are ready to compete in the global job market, UMM continues to innovate in the delivery of legal education. The COE Corporate Law School program, with its focus on Labor Law and Industrial Dispute Resolution, stands as proof of the university's commitment to providing high-quality education that is relevant to industry needs.
This course is not just about enhancing theoretical knowledge but also about developing practical skills and professional attitudes required to succeed in a career in labor law. COE Corporate Law School students at UMM are well-prepared to become future leaders in the field of industrial law and labor dispute resolution.
