Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), through the Islamic Family Law Study Program under the Faculty of Islamic Studies, has launched an innovative program called the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School. This program is designed to prepare students to become competent corporate law experts, with a special focus on Investment and Licensing Law.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School offers a comprehensive curriculum covering various aspects of corporate law and business regulations. Students will be equipped with in-depth knowledge of fundamental corporate law concepts in both national and international contexts. They will also be trained to analyze legal cases related to contracts, competition law, intellectual property rights, and corporate responsibilities.
One of the flagship courses in this program is Investment and Licensing Law. This course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of legal concepts related to investment and licensing in Indonesia. Students will be trained to master legal aspects, including licensing requirements, legal protection for investors, and relevant legal procedures in the context of investment.
This program is conducted by the Islamic Family Law Study Program under the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. In its implementation, UMM collaborates with the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) Malang, which provides practical support and professional experience for students.
The Investment and Licensing Law course is scheduled for the sixth semester, during the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The course will be conducted using a hybrid learning model, combining offline and online methods to offer flexibility for students.
Although based at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, the program extends beyond on-campus learning. Students will have the opportunity to intern at leading companies or legal institutions, providing them with direct exposure to the professional corporate and investment law environment.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School serves as a response to the demand for corporate law experts who not only understand legal aspects but also possess specific expertise in investment and licensing. In an era of globalization and increasing complexity in investment regulations, the presence of competent legal experts in the field of investment and licensing is crucial for Indonesia's business sector.
This program adopts a holistic and practical learning approach. In addition to theoretical lectures, students will participate in various practical activities, including investment case analysis, licensing process simulations, and internships. The Investment and Licensing Law course will be taught by practitioner lecturer Wahyudi Kurniawan, S.H., M.H.Li., C.Me., who will bring real-world experience into the classroom.
The program's curriculum is designed to cover essential aspects of corporate and investment law. Students will study not only positive law but also business ethics and sustainability principles. A unique feature of this program is the integration of Islamic legal principles into corporate law analysis, providing a broader and contextually relevant perspective for Indonesia.
In the Investment and Licensing Law course, students will acquire the skills to analyze the legal implications of various types of investments, both domestic and international. They will also learn to identify applicable regulations and understand the roles of related institutions such as BKPM (Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board). Additionally, students will develop practical skills in designing effective legal strategies to support investment processes and address potential legal issues, including in the context of investment dispute resolution.
One of the main focuses of the program is the development of dispute resolution skills. Students will be trained in various conflict resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration, and litigation, with a particular emphasis on investment disputes. These skills are critical given the complexity of investment disputes often encountered in the international business world.
The program also places special attention on developing students' soft skills. Communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities are honed through various practical activities and collaborative projects. These skills are essential not only in academic contexts but also in professional careers in corporate and investment law.
Beyond theoretical comprehension, students will develop practical skills in handling investment and licensing cases. They will be trained to anticipate and address legal issues that may arise during investment processes, including providing legal protection for investors.
The Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program also emphasizes ethics in investment and licensing law practices. Students will explore how business ethics principles can be integrated into investment law practices. They will be encouraged to understand the importance of regulatory compliance and integrity in professional practice in investment and licensing.
The uniqueness of this program also lies in its integration with Islamic legal principles. Students will explore how Islamic values provide additional perspectives in corporate and investment law analysis. This approach is not only relevant in Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, but also offers valuable insights for addressing ethical and moral issues in the global business and investment environment.
The internship program is a critical component of the curriculum. Through partnerships with leading companies and legal institutions, students gain the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. This experience enriches their understanding of corporate and investment law practices and builds valuable professional networks for their future careers.
With its comprehensive learning approach, the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School aims to produce graduates with deep legal knowledge, practical skills, and strong ethical awareness in investment and licensing. Graduates of this program are expected to become valuable assets to Indonesia's legal and business sectors, contributing significantly to the development of ethical and sustainable corporate and investment law practices.
In an era of global economic complexity and increasing regulatory challenges in investment, the presence of competent and integrity-driven corporate law experts in investment and licensing is more critical than ever. This program addresses this need by preparing a new generation of legal practitioners capable of tackling modern business challenges with a particular focus on investment and licensing aspects.
With support from PERADI Malang and the involvement of experienced practitioner lecturers such as Wahyudi Kurniawan, this program bridges the gap between theory and practice in corporate and investment law education. Students will gain a strong conceptual foundation alongside practical insights relevant to contemporary business and investment dynamics.
The success of this program will have a broad impact, not only for students and Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang but also for the overall development of corporate and investment law practices in Indonesia. By producing graduates with high competence and strong moral integrity in investment and licensing, the program contributes to improving the quality of legal services in the corporate and investment sectors, ultimately supporting economic growth and fostering a healthy investment climate in Indonesia.
In the long term, the Center of Excellence Corporate Law School program, with its focus on Investment and Licensing Law, is expected to serve as a model for the development of corporate legal education in Indonesia. It aims to inspire other educational institutions to adopt more holistic and practice-oriented approaches in preparing future legal experts. Thus, this program contributes not only to individual student development but also to raising standards of professionalism and ethics in corporate and investment law practices across Indonesia.
