Biografi Singkat
Pradana Boy Zulian adalah dosen dan peneliti di Program Studi Hukum Keluarga Islam (HKI), Fakultas Agama Islam (FAI) Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang.
Ia pernah menjabat Asisten Staf Khusus Presiden Republik Indonesia pada Juni 2018 - Oktober 2019. Sebelumnya, ia adalah Kepala Pusat Studi Islam dan Filsafat (PSIF) UMM sejak 2015 - 2018. Bersamaan dengan posisi itu, ia juga menjadi Duta Perdamaian Internasional King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID), Wina, Austria, 2016-2017.
Pendidikan sarjana pertamanya di bidang hukum Islam diselesaikan di Jurusan Syariah (sebelum menjadi Hukum Keluarga Islam) UMM dengan skripsi yang bertajuk "Zakatu al-Mihnati: Makanatuha inda Syari’ati al-Islamiyyah wa ‘Alaqatuha bi Hayati al-Ijtimaiyyah" pada tahun 2000. Delapan tahun kemudian, ia meraih gelar sarjana keduanya di bidang pemikiran dan gerakan Islam kontemporer di Indonesia di Faculty of Asian Studies, The Australian National University (ANU), Canberra, Australia, dengan tesis yang bertajuk "In Defence of Pure Islam: The Conservative-Progressive Debate within Muhammadiyah" (2008). Gelar PhD-nya diraih dari Department of Malay Studies, National University of Singapore (NUS) di bidang sosiologi hukum Islam pada 2015 dan menulis disertasi yang berjudul "Fatwa in Indonesia: An Analysis of Dominant Legal Ideas and Mode of Thought of Fatwa-Making Agencies and Their Implications in the Post-New Order Period".
Ia mengikuti berbagai aktivitas akademik di berbagai kampus terkemuka di dunia. Ia pernah belajar tentang "Islamic Philosophy and Thought" di Al-Mustafa International University, Qom, Iran pada 2020, "American Politics and Political Thought" di University of Massachusets, Amerika Serikat pada 2017, "Intensive Course Researching Citizenship" Universitas Gadjah Mada, Yogyakarta bekerjasama dengan KITLV Belanda pada 2012, "Human Security and Human Security Alliance," di Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand pada 2009.
