Recognizing the vast career opportunities in corporate law, the Islamic Family Law Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has launched the professional class Center of Excellence (CoE) Corporate Law School. In collaboration with the Malang Branch of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI), the class was officially launched on Wednesday, September 28.

The establishment of the CoE program at UMM is part of the university’s initiative to support its Tri Pasti UMM program, which ensures graduates are guaranteed employment, independence, and on-time graduation. UMM students are equipped with expertise and skills, one of which is provided through the Center of Excellence program.

In his remarks, UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., emphasized that universities must be adaptive to the times. Higher education institutions should not only rely on traditional systems but also introduce innovative and effective solutions.

According to the Rector, in this era of uncertainty, UMM students must not succumb to the confusion of the times, let alone contribute to it. He stated that in this disruptive era, those who survive are individuals with expertise. UMM has made a breakthrough by implementing equivalency policies to encourage students to gain recognition.

"Therefore, the CoE was created to minimize the negative perception of higher education institutions as being less competent in producing skilled professionals."

The UMM CoE classes aim to prepare professional experts in specific fields. Students are free to choose programs based on their passions, interests, and talents, allowing them to graduate confidently, independently, and with two core competencies: academic expertise and leadership skills developed through the CoE programs.

Echoing the Rector's sentiments, Dian Aminudin, S.H., Chair of the Malang Branch of PERADI, expressed great appreciation for the CoE Corporate Law School program. FAI (Faculty of Islamic Studies) is the first non-law faculty to collaborate with PERADI, making this a significant opportunity in the field of corporate law.

PERADI Malang sees this collaboration as a response to global challenges. "Collaboration doesn’t have to occur between parties that frequently interact; it should be open to others. When we learned about the potential partnership for launching the CoE Corporate Law School, we were very interested and confident in FAI UMM's readiness and capabilities. We believe this partnership will achieve its goals and contribute to enhancing education and legal development in Indonesia," he explained.

The Dean of FAI revealed that within the Faculty of Islamic Studies, the Islamic Family Law program is the first to launch a CoE. "The CoE programs for other departments are still in the early stages and, God willing, will soon materialize, such as the Translation Class for the Arabic Language Education program and the Excellent School Management Class for the Islamic Education program. These will complement the special competencies of students within FAI programs."

The Dean added, "The Islamic Family Law program at FAI is unique, particularly because of its faculty. The program’s lecturers are alumni from universities in Indonesia, the West, and the Middle East, working together to strengthen the program. Supported by exceptional faculty and industry partners, I am confident this CoE will grow strong and succeed."

The launch of the class was marked by the signing of an MoU and a collaboration agreement with PERADI Malang. The CLS program is a flagship school mentored directly by professionals from the “Business and Industrial World,” particularly from PERADI Malang. These mentors are experts and practitioners experienced in handling major cases in corporate law.

The CLS program will cover Corporate Law, Contract and Agreement Law, Contract Drafting, Employment Law, Legal Document Management, and Corporate Lawyer training.

This CLS program is not limited to students of Law and Islamic Family Law but is also open to students from other disciplines and company staff interested in mastering corporate law skills. (ika)
