Malang, Wednesday, November 22, 2023. The Islamic Family Law Study Program at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, held a book review event titled "From the Narratives of Students for the Welfare of Indonesia." Three books were reviewed during the event, all of which are the result of collaboration between faculty members and students based on discussions and dialogues that took place during lectures. These books are the product of courses in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKN), Constitutional Law, and Islamic Jurisprudence on Women and Children.

The first book, titled "NARASI KEBANGSAAN - Critical Reflections on National Issues," is the outcome of the PPKN course taught by Mr. Soni Zakaria, M.H. This book is a collaborative effort between the faculty and students, particularly those from the Islamic Family Law Study Program (HKI) at the Faculty of Islamic Studies (FAI) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

The book was born from dialogues and discussions that took place in the academic setting, especially during the Pancasila and Citizenship Education course. This course is mandatory for all students across various faculties and departments, including the HKI Program at UMM. The content of the course provides students with a platform to discuss national issues, giving rise to critical voices through written narratives. These reflections not only highlight national problems but also offer potential solutions for the benefit of the nation, making the work deserving of publication.

The book was created during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had plagued the nation for over a year after the pandemic was declared. The pandemic fundamentally altered nearly all aspects of life, including education. The implementation of online learning was a key policy that helped curb the spread of Covid-19, ensuring it remained under control. Despite the limitations on student discussions due to the pandemic, this book serves as evidence that students did not lose their critical thinking abilities.

The second book is the result of the Islamic Jurisprudence on Women and Children course, taught by Mrs. Luciana Anggraeni, M.H., titled "Fikih Perempuan dan Isu-Isu Keperempuanan Kontemporer dalam Islam" (Islamic Jurisprudence on Women and Contemporary Issues in Islam). This book was written to address several contemporary issues concerning women that need to be re-examined in order to understand Islamic jurisprudence on women through an Islamic worldview.

Several current issues discussed in society, such as the paradigm of sexual consent, emerged alongside the enactment of regulations from the Ministry of Education and Culture in response to the increasing cases of sexual violence in higher education institutions. The concepts of childfree and marital rape also feature prominently in this book's discussion.

The third book emerged from the Constitutional Law course, taught by Mrs. Imroatus Sholikhah, M.H. The resulting book, titled "Kompleksitas Hukum Ketatanegaraan" (Complexities of Constitutional Law), contains reflections from the authors on constitutional law in Indonesia. The authors are students of the Islamic Family Law Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang, who are currently taking the Constitutional Law course.

They attempt to analyze and critique current constitutional issues in Indonesia from the perspective of the theories they have learned in class. It is no surprise that this book is quite refreshing to read, as it addresses contemporary constitutional issues.

This book review event is an academic activity aimed at exploring the views, ideas, and hopes of students in building the nation's future. It encourages in-depth discussions on pressing issues, inspires positive action, and opens opportunities for collaboration between students and relevant stakeholders. The goal is to strengthen critical thinking skills, foster social responsibility, and enhance students' active participation in efforts to achieve the greater good for Indonesia. More than that, this book review spreads students' ideas and innovations to spark positive change in society. The event was attended by hundreds of students from the HKI program, who are also taking courses in Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PPKN), Islamic Jurisprudence on Women and Children, and Constitutional Law.
